(October 15): The Birth of Sri Guru Ram Das Ji
-
Today's date on the Nanakshahi Calendar marks the birth anniversary of the fourth Nanak, Sri Guru Ram Das Ji; who are known to have founded the holy city of Amritsar, along with the sacred "Amrit Sarovar" (Ambrosial Pool) surrounding the Sri Hari Mandir Sahib.
They were born with the birth name "Jetha", and were the first human Guru to belong to the Sodhi dynasty; hence the alias, "Sodhi Patshah" (emperor of the "Sodhi" clan). The event of their birth is not officially recorded in any historical scripture, as they weren't a direct descendant of any previous human Guru; their only human relation was being the son-in-law of Sri Guru Amar Das Ji. Therefore, below are some passages from the "Sri Gur Pratap Suraj Granth" of Kavi Santokh Singh in praise of the Sodhi Patshah; Sri Guru Ram Das Ji:

-

"O Sri Guru Ram Das Ji ! Thou art a treasury of bliss;
thou eradicatest the fears of thy servants.
I, Kavi Santokh Singh, bow to the feet of thee;
I have accepted thy holy feet as my refuge."

"In a pool full of water, the sun's heat blooms a lotus; which closes its petals on seeing the moon's light.
But when the water from that pool evaporates, that same sun's heat will make the lotus flower wither.
As the lotus flower's stem is constantly covered in dirt; its body-village is constantly full of filth.
On seeing the beauty of the lotus' petals, various insects leech off of its nectar.
When the winter season approaches, ice and snow cause the flower to die.
The lotus flower has many demerits; it is subordinate to its surroundings.
As a result of this, the feet of the Satguru cannot be eulogized using the lotus flower.
The holy feet of Sri Guru Ram Das Ji are unbound; they give salvation to beings full of demerit."

they annihilated Ravana alongside their army of apes.
In the Kali Yuga, Ramdas Ji are the avatar of the true Guru;
they are known to be the son of Sri Hari Das.
Sri Guru Ram Das Ji are the metaphorical lion,
that kills the elephant of worldly attachment.
They eradicate the mightiest of sins;
and are the sun that radiates universal knowledge.
They implant the name of 'Waheguru' within the hearts of their servants.
Even Brahma and Shiva meditate upon their name."
