This date on the 'SGPC' Nanakshahi Calendar denotes the Bikrami Lunar date of 'Jyeshtha Sudi Tritiya,' which is recorded as the day that the fifth Nanak, Srī Gurū Arjan Ḏev Ji, left their physical form and departed for heavenly abode after being tortured by Emperor Jahangir. Chandu Shah was a governor in Lahore who wanted to betroth his daughter to the Gurū's son (Srī Gurū Hargobiʼnḏ Ji). Chandu had previously disregarded the Gurū, so Gurū Ji ultimately refused the proposal. This sparked great envy in Chandu, who along with other antagonists of the Gurū, began to spread rumors against them and the 'Granth.' Chandu as well as Prithi Chand conspired against Gurū Ji multiple times. Meharban, the son of Prithi Chand was the one who essentially influenced Jahangir to arrest the Gurū. Emperor Jahangir was already envious of the Gurū and his Sikhs, as he envied everyone who Emperor Akbar had admired. Jahangir also had an ongoing rivalry with his eldest son Khusrau, who was rebelling against his father to secure the throne for himself. Khusrau allegedly received the blessings of Gurū Ji when he arrived at Tarn Taran. Meharban used this to fuel envy in Jahangir, which caused him to order the Gurū's arrest. Jahangir then demanded Gurū Ji to pay a large fine, simply for giving their blessings to Khusrau. Gurū Ji refused, as they had done nothing wrong; Jahangir ordered for them to be tortured. The Emperor himself could not bear the heat of the Summer, so he traveled to Kashmir. Chandu then seized the opportunity and tortured Gurū Ji for many days. He gave the Gurū many punishments, such as not letting them eat or drink, not letting them sleep, and seating them in a boiling cauldron. The Muslim saint, Mian Mir, who was a close friend of Gurū Ji, tried to intervene and stop the atrocities. However, Guru Ji told him that all was happening in accordance to the Lord's will, and that they must accept the Lord's will blissfully. On the fourth day, Gurū Ji were tortured in the harshest way among all the other punishments. They were seated on a large red-hot plate of iron, with scalding hot sand being poured over their body. Amidst this, Gurū Ji remained calm and embodied fortitude; focusing their mind on the name of Wahegurū. It was on the fifth day that Chandu had planned to torture Gurū Ji by sewing them inside a fresh cowhide. The following chapter from the 'Sri Gur Pratap Suraj Granth' of Kavi Santokh Singh, describes the events which unfolded from this point onward:

ਦੋਹਰਾ:

ਉਠਯੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਤ ਚੰਦੂ ਦੁਸ਼ਟ ਚਿਤਵਤਿ ਚਿਤ ਗੁਰ ਬਾਤਿ।

ਆਜ ਮਨਾਵੋਂ ਜਿਮ ਚਹੌਂ ਨਾਂਹਿ ਤ ਕਰਿਹੌਂ ਘਾਤਿ ॥੧॥

"The malevolent Chandu awoke at dawn, thinking of the Gurū within his mind.

'Today I will persuade them [the Gurū] to do what I say, or else I will murder them."

ਚੌਪਈ:

ਅਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਿਯ ਧਰਮ ਰਿਦੇ ਜਿਸ ਕੇਰੇ। ਤਿਸ ਖੋਵਨਿ ਹਿਤ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਘਨੇਰੇ।

ਕਰੋਂ ਆਜ ਬਿਧਿ ਸੁਤਾ ਸਗਾਈ। ਕੈ ਗੋ ਚਰਮ ਦੇਉਂ ਮਢਵਾਈ ॥੨॥

"They, who have love for Ḏẖaram;

there is a great fear of losing them.

Today, I will betroth my daughter;

or else I will sew them in cowhide.'"

ਇਮ ਚਿਤਵਤਿ ਪਹੁਂਚਯੋ ਤਹਿਂ ਆਈ। ਬੈਠਯੋ ਦੁਸ਼ਟ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਉਪਜਾਈ।

ਨਿਕਟ ਗੁਰੂ ਕੇ ਬਾਕ ਬਖਾਨਾ। 'ਅਬਿ ਲੌ ਨਾਤਾ ਲਿਹੁ ਮਨ ਮਾਨਾ ॥੩॥

"In this way, he contemplated until he arrived;

the sinner then sat down embodying great anger.

Approaching Gurū Ji, he uttered the following:

'Now accept the betrothal; agree with thy mind."

ਸਕਲ ਮੁਲਖ ਮਾਲਿਕ ਅਬਿ ਸ਼ਾਹੂ। ਤਿਸ ਦਿਵਾਨ ਮੈਂ, ਬੈਠਤਿ ਪਾਹੂ।

ਜਹਿਂ ਲਗਿ ਰਾਜ ਤੁਰਕ ਪਤਿ ਕੇਰਾ। ਤਹਿਂ ਲਗਿ ਹੁਕਮ ਚਲਤਿ ਹੈ ਮੇਰਾ ॥੪॥

"The emperor is the ruler of the entire nation;

I am their courtier and always sit near them.

As long as the reign of the Turks remains;

until then, my command shall be in power."

ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਨ ਤਨਕ ਸੁ ਮਨ ਮਹਿਂ ਜਾਨਾ। ਕਰਯੋ ਅਨਾਦਰ ਰੰਕ ਸਮਾਨਾ।

ਸੋ ਫਲ ਅਬਿ ਲੇਵਹੁ ਦੁਖ ਘਨੇ। ਬਿਨਾ ਧਰਮ ਕਰਿ ਅਬਿ ਦਿਉਂ ਹਨੇ ॥੫॥

"Thou hast not even a little fear for me;

like a pauper, thou hast dishonoured me.

Now, thou shalt suffer the fruit of pain;

I will rid of thy Ḏẖaram and kill thee."

ਧੇਨੁ ਚਰਮ ਕੋ ਲੇਕਰਿ ਗੀਲਾ। ਲਪਟਾਵਹਿਂ ਜੇਤਿਕ ਤੁਵ ਡੀਲਾ।

ਪੁਨ ਆਤਪ ਮਹਿਂ ਦੇਉਂ ਬਿਠਾਇ। ਸੁਸਕਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਤੋਹਿ ਬਿਨਸਾਇ ॥੬॥

"Taking the damp hide of a cow;

I will stitch your body inside of it.

Then, I shall seat thee in the heat;

as the hide dries, thou wilt die."

ਪੁਨਹ ਪਠੌਂ ਮੈਂ ਅਪਨ ਸਿਪਾਹੀ। ਘਰ ਕੋ ਲੂਟ ਲੇਹਿਂ ਧਨ ਪਾਹੀ।

ਗਹਿ ਲੈਹੈ ਤਬਿ ਨੰਦਨ ਤੇਰਾ। ਇਸੀ ਰੀਤਿ ਦੇ ਕਸ਼ਟ ਬਡੇਰਾ ॥੭॥

"Then, I will send over my sepoys;

to loot thy home, and take thy wealth.

Then, I will have thy son captured;

In this way, I will inflict such torture."

ਕਰੋਂ ਘਾਤ ਨਹਿਂ ਜੀਵਤਿ ਛੋਰੈਂ। ਬਿਨਾ ਬੰਸ ਕਰਿਹੌਂ ਦੁਖ ਘੋਰੈਂ।

ਨਾਂਹਿਤ ਨਾਤਾ ਮਾਨੋ ਆਜਿ। ਬਚੈਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਸਭਿ ਸੁਧਰਹਿਂ ਕਾਜ ॥੮॥

"I will kill thee, not leave thee alive;

ridding thy lineage, I will torture thee.

Shalt thou accept the betrothal today;

thy life will be spared, and all will reform."

ਸੁਲਹੀ ਸੁਲਬੀ ਪ੍ਰਿਥੀਆ ਮਰਯੋ। ਕਰੇ ਜਤਨ ਤੂੰ ਹਾਥ ਨ ਪਰਯੋ।

ਚਹਤਿ ਗਏ ਮਰਿ, ਪੁਜੀ ਨ ਆਸਾ। ਮੈਂ ਅਬਿ ਕਰਿਹੌਂ ਤੋਰ ਬਿਨਾਸ਼ਾ ॥੯॥

"Sulhī Khan, Sulbī Khan, and Prithī Chand have all died;

many efforts were made, but they could not capture thee.

They died with their ambitions, their wishes were unfulfilled;

now, I shall be the one who will bring destruction to thee."

ਕਿਸ ਬਲ ਕੇ ਭਰੋਸ ਉਰ ਭੂਲਾ। ਮਮ ਸਮ ਬਲੀ ਕੇਰ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਕੂਲਾ।

ਕਹਿਬੋ ਅਹੈ ਸੁ ਕਹੁ ਅਬਿ ਸਮੋ। ਜਬਿ ਲਗਿ ਮੈਂ ਬੂਝਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਛਿਮੋ' ॥੧੦॥

"What power dost thou believe in;

that thou hast forgotten my power?

Whatever thou must say, do so now;

so long as I ask, I can forgive thee.'"

ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਅਰਜਨ ਸੁਨਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਭਿ ਸ਼੍ਰੋਨ। ਬੋਲੇ ਬਾਕ ਜਿਨਹੁ ਕਿਤ ਭੌ ਨ।

'ਅਬਿ ਹਮ ਰਾਵੀ ਚਹੈਂ ਸ਼ਨਾਨ। ਸੇਵਕ ਪੰਚ ਸੰਗ ਦਿਹੁ ਜਾਨਿ ॥੧੧॥

"Srī Gurū Arjan Ḏev Ji listen to this;

without any fear, they reply to him:

'Now, we wish to bathe in the Rāvī;

allow five devotees to accompany us."

ਪੰਚ ਦਿਵਸ ਬੀਤੇ ਇਸ ਭਾਂਤੀ। ਦਈ ਸਜ਼ਾਇ ਅਗਨਿ ਸਮ ਤਾਤੀ।

ਪਾਵਨ ਤਨੇ ਪੁਨਹ ਜਿਮ ਕਰੈਂ। ਨਿਸ਼ਚਲ ਮਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਨਿਸ਼ਚੇ ਧਰੈਂ' ॥੧੨॥

"Five days have passed in this way;

a fire-like punishment has been given.

First we shall be sanctified by the water;

then, we will decide with firm resolution.'"

ਸੁਨਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੁਸ਼ਟ ਰਿਦੇ ਹਰਖਾਯੋ। ਧਰਮ ਬਿਨਾਸ਼ਨਿ ਤੇ ਡਰਪਾਯੋ।

ਅਬਿ ਇਹ ਮਾਨ ਲੇਇ ਹੈ ਨਾਤਾ। ਸੀਤਲ ਗਾਤ ਹੋਇ ਜਲ ਨਾਤਾ ॥੧੩॥

"Upon hearing this, the sinner is pleased.

he thinks they fear the end of their Ḏẖaram;

He thinks now they will accept the betrothal;

when their body cools down from the river."

ਇਮ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਕਹਿ 'ਜਾਇ ਸ਼ਨਾਨਹੁ। ਬਚਹਿਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਕਹਿਬੋ ਮਨ ਮਾਨਹੁ'।

ਦਸਕ ਸਿਪਾਹੀ ਕਰਿ ਸਵਧਾਨੋ। 'ਖੜਗ ਸਿਪਰ ਗਹਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਪਿਆਨੋ ॥੧੪॥

"Upon this he says: 'Have thy ablution;

save thine breaths and accept my word.'

He then forewarned ten of his sepoys:

'Take swords and shields along with you."

ਅਪਨੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਿ ਤਰੇ ਇਸ ਰਾਖਹੁ। ਵਹਿਰ ਕਿਸੂ ਢਿਗ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਭਾਖਹੁ।

ਇਤ ਉਤ ਦੂਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਨੇ ਦੇਹੁ। ਰਾਵੀ ਤੀਰ ਸਥਿਰਤਾ ਲੋਹੁ ॥੧੫॥

"Keep them [the Gurū] in your sight;

they must not speak to anyone outside.

Ensure that they do not go anywhere far;

position yourselves on the bank of Rāvī."

ਅਪਰ ਗਰੀ ਤੇ ਕਹਿ ਹਟਕਾਵਹੁ। ਮੱਜਤਿ ਬੈਠਤਿ ਕੁਛੁ ਨ ਅਲਾਵਹੁ।

ਇਤ ਦਿਸ਼ਿ ਲਯਾਵਹੁ ਰਹਹੁ ਪਿਛਾਰੀ। ਸਿੱਖਨਿ ਜੁਤਿ ਇਸ ਰਖਹੁ ਅਗਾਰੀ' ॥੧੬॥

"Prevent them from going in a different lane;

do not disturb them when they are bathing.

When bringing them back, follow behind;

the Gurū and Sikhs should stay forwards.'"

ਇਮ ਕਹਿ ਕੀਨਿ ਘਨੀ ਤਕਰਾਈ। ਸੁਨਿ ਖਲ ਤੇ ਚਲਿ ਪਰੇ ਗੁਸਾਈਂ।

ਪਰੇ ਫਲੂਹੇ ਸਰਬ ਸਰੀਰ। ਛਾਦਿ ਚਾਦਰੇ ਦੀਰਘ ਚੀਰ ॥੧੭॥

"In this way, he enforced tight security;

on hearing the fool, Gurū Ji start walking.

Blisters had formed all over their body;

deep wounds were covered by a shawl."

ਤਰੁਵਾ ਚਰਣ ਜਰੇ ਬ੍ਰਿਣ ਹੋਏ। ਸਨੈ ਸਨੈ ਧਰ ਪਰਿ ਧਰਿ ਜੋਏ।

ਨਿਕਟ ਪਿਰਾਣਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਹੇਰਾ। ਗਹਯੋ ਸਿਕੰਧ ਚਲੇ ਤਿਸ ਬੇਰਾ ॥੧੮॥

"The soles of their feet had been burnt very badly;

they walk slowly, laying their feet on the ground.

When Gurū Ji see Bhai Pirana nearby them;

they continue by using his shoulders as support."

ਸਲਿਤਾ ਦਿਸਿ ਛੋਟੀ ਇਕ ਮੋਰੀ। ਗਮਨਤਿ ਨਿਕਸੇ ਗੁਰ ਤਿਸ ਓਰੀ।

ਕੋ ਕੋ ਨਰ ਪਿਖਿ ਠਾਨਤਿ ਨਮੋ। ਲਾਲ ਬਰਣ ਮੁਖ ਕੋ ਤਿਹ ਸਮੋ ॥੧੯॥

"On the bank of the river, there was a hole;

Gurū Ji immerse themselves in it, then emerge.

Many people would greet them upon sight;

at the time, they had red blisters on their face."

ਭੋਜਨ ਕਿਯੋ ਨ ਪੀਯੋ ਪਾਨੀ। ਦੁਰਬਲ ਤਨ ਸਜ਼ਾਇ ਖਲ ਠਾਨੀ।

ਹੇਰਿ ਹੇਰਿ ਨਰ ਉਰ ਬਿਸਮਾਵੈਂ। ਕਯਾ ਇਨ ਦਸ਼ਾ ਭਈ ਗੁਰੁ ਜਾਵੈਂ ? ॥੨੦॥

"They had not eaten or drank any water;

their body was very weak from the torture.

People remain astonished upon the sight;

in what condition are Gurū Ji walking?"

ਚਿਤ ਕੀ ਬ੍ਰਿੱਤਿ ਏਕ ਰਸ ਤੈਸੇ। ਨਿਜਾਨੰਦ ਮਹਿਂ ਪੂਰਬ ਜੈਸੇ।

ਤਨ ਪੀਰਾ ਤੇ ਡਿਗੀ ਨ ਸੋਈ। ਮੇਰੁ ਹਿਲਾਇ ਨ ਜਿਮ ਨਰ ਕੋਈ ॥੨੧॥

"The concentration of their mind was intact;

they remained as blissful as they were before.

The pain could not render their body unstable;

in the same way one cannot move Mount Meru."

ਸਨੈ ਸਨੈ ਰਾਵੀ ਕੇ ਤੀਰ। ਪਹੁਂਚੇ ਛੁਯੋ ਨੀਰ ਬਡ ਸੀਰ।

ਕਰ ਪੰਕਜ ਤੇ ਮੁਖ ਅਰਬਿੰਦ। ਕਰਯੋ ਪਖਾਰਨਿ ਧੀਰ ਮੁਕੰਦ ॥੨੨॥

"Slowly, they reached the bank of Rāvī;

upon arriving, they touched the cool water.

The Gurū's hands and face are like a lotus;

Gurū Ji wash their hands and face with water."

ਬ੍ਰਿੰਦ ਚੁਰੇ ਕਰਿ ਮੁਖ ਸਿਤਲਾਯੋ। ਮਹਾਂ ਉਸ਼ਨਤਾ ਜੋ ਤਪਤਾਯੋ।

ਗਹਿ ਪਦ ਪਦਮ ਲਂਙਾਹ ਪਖਾਰੇ। ਪ੍ਰਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਜਲ ਮਹਿਂ ਮੱਜਨ ਧਾਰੇ ॥੨੩॥

"Taking handfuls of water, they cooled their face;

their face had been warmed by the immense heat.

Then, Bhai Langah cleaned Gurū Ji's lotus-feet;

Gurū Ji then entered the water and abluted."

ਵਹਿਰ ਨਿਕਸਿ ਪਟ ਸ਼ੁਸ਼ਕ ਲਿਯੋ ਹੈ। ਦੇਹ ਅਛਾਦਨਿ ਪੁਨਹ ਕਿਯੋ ਹੈ।

ਜਪੁਜੀ ਪਾਠ ਕਰਤਿ ਉਰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਾ। ਜੋ ਸਿੱਖਨਿ ਕੀ ਠਾਨਤਿ ਛੇਮਾ ॥੨੪॥

"Then, they emerged and dried off with a cloth;

again, they covered themselves with their shawl.

Embodying great love, they recited the Japuji;

the prayer which grants the Sikhs liberation."

ਪੁਨ ਪੰਚਹੁ ਸਿਖ ਕੀਨਿ ਸ਼ਨਾਨੇ। ਗੁਰੁ ਬਾਨੀ ਕੋ ਪਾਠ ਬਖਾਨੇ।

ਖਰੇ ਭਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਰਵਾਰ। ਜਪੁਜੀ ਪਾਠ ਸੁਨਯੋ ਨਿਰਧਾਰ ॥੨੫॥

"Then, the five other Sikhs abluted;

they recited Gurbāṇī prayers as well.

Everyone sat down surrounding Gurū Ji;

they listened to the recital of the Japuji."

ਭੋਗ ਪਾਇ ਕਰਿ ਸੀਸ ਨਿਵਾਯੋ। ਪੁਨ ਸਿੱਖਨਿ ਸਨਿ ਬਾਕ ਅਲਾਯੋ।

'ਅਬਿ ਹਮ ਚਹਿਂ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਪਿਆਨਾ। ਚਿਤ ਜਿਮ ਕਹਤਿ ਸਕਲ ਹਮ ਠਾਨਾ ॥੨੬॥

"Upon conclusion, they bow their heads;

Afterwards, Gurū Ji say to all the Sikhs:

'Now, we wish to travel to the next world;

whatever our mind desired, we have done."

ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸੰਗ ਮਿਲੀਜੈ। ਹਮ ਦਿਸ਼ਿ ਤੇ ਬਹੁ ਧੀਰਜ ਦੀਜੈ।

ਕਰਹੁ ਨ ਸ਼ੋਕ ਗੁਬਿੰਦ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੋ। ਅਪਰ ਸਰਬ ਕੋ ਕਹੋ ਮਿਟਾਵੋ ॥੨੭॥

"Go and meet Srī Hargobiʼnḏ Ji;

give them love from our behalf.

They should not be saddened;

they must sing the Lord's virtues;

and remove the sorrow of others."

ਸਾਯੁਧ ਹੋਇ ਤਖਤ ਪਰ ਰਾਜਹੁ। ਜਥਾ ਸ਼ਕਤਿ ਸੈਨਾ ਸੰਗ ਸਾਜਹੂ।

ਪ੍ਰਥਮ ਚੰਦੁ ਤੇ ਪਲਟਾ ਲੀਜਹਿ। ਹਤਹੁ ਕੁਮੌਤ ਮਹਾਂ ਦੁਖ ਦੀਜਹਿ ॥੨੮॥

"Arming themselves, they must take the throne;

according to their ability, they must form an army.

First they must seek vengeance from Chandu¹;

the one with the evil 'Maṯ' must be killed in agony."

¹ Note:-- Srī Gurū Arjan Ḏev Ji are the abode of mercy; they could not have believed in resolution through vengeance.

ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਕੀ ਅੰਸ। ਨਿਕਟ ਹਕਾਰੋ ਕੁਲ ਅਵਿਤੰਸ਼।

ਪ੍ਰਥਮ ਰੀਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਲੀਜਹਿ ਟੀਕਾ। ਸਕਲ ਬਡਿਨਿ ਸੰਗ ਕਹਿ ਬਚ ਨੀਕਾ ॥੨੯॥

"The family of Srī Gurū Amar Ḏās Ji;

thou shalt call them to thy company.

As per the old tradition, don the Ŧilak;

speak with reverence to all the elderly."

ਬ੍ਰਿਧ ਆਦਿਕ ਸਿੱਖਨਿ ਸਨਮਾਨਹੁ। ਪੁਰਾ ਗੁਰੁਨਿ ਕੀ ਰੀਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਨਹੁ।

ਨਈ ਰੀਤਿ ਇਕ ਰਣ ਕੀ ਕੀਜਹਿ। ਅਪਰ ਪ੍ਰਥਮ ਸਮ ਗਤੀ ਚਲੀਜਹਿ ॥੩੦॥

"Pay respect to Sikhs like Bābā Buḏhā Ji;

continue the complete tradition of the Gurū.

Commence with a new tradition of warfare;

do all else according to the previous Gurūs."

ਦਾਹ ਦੇਹਿ ਨਹਿਂ ਕਰਿਹੁ ਹਮਾਰੀ। ਦਿਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਹ ਇਸ ਸਲਿਤਾ ਬਾਰੀ।

ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਹਮਰੋ ਇਹ ਦਰਿਆਉ। ਉੱਤਰ ਦਿਸ਼ਿ ਸਿਰ ਦੱਛਣ ਪਾਉ' ॥੩੧॥

"Thou must not cremate our body;

set it astream, immersed in the river.

Consider the river our last glimpses;

face our head north, and feet south.'"

ਏਕ ਰਬਾਬੀ ਤਬਿ ਚਲਿ ਆਯੋ। ਹਾਥ ਦੁਤਾਰਾ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸਾਯੋ।

ਕਹਯੋ ਤਾਂਹਿ ਕੋ 'ਕਿਰਤਨ ਕਰਹੁ। ਸਲਿਤਾ ਤੀਰ ਰੁਚਿਰ ਥਲ ਥਿਰਹੁ' ॥੩੨॥

"Just then, a Rabābī approached them;

Gurū Ji noticed a Dutārā in his hands.

Seeing him, they tell him: 'Sing Kīrṯan;

sit at a beautiful spot near the river-bank.'"

ਗੁਰੂ ਪਛਾਨੇ ਬੰਦਨ ਕੀਨਿ। ਗਾਵਨਿ ਲਗਯੋ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਰਸ ਭੀਨ।

ਬ੍ਰਮਾਦਿਕ ਲਖਿ ਕਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਤਯਾਰੀ। ਇੰਦ੍ਰਾਦਿਕ ਸੁਰ ਗੁਰ ਸੁਰ ਝਾਰੀ ॥੩੩॥

"Recognizing the Gurū, he payed obeisance;

he then began to sing a hymn very pleasingly.

When Brahma noticed Gurū Ji's preparations;

Indra, along with all the other deities, arrived."

ਬਿੱਦਯਾ ਧਰ ਉਤਲਾਵਤਿ ਆਏ। ਕਿੰਨਰ, ਜੱਛ, ਅਪੱਸਰਾ ਲਯਾਏ।

ਸਕਲ ਬਾਯੁ ਗਨ ਸਿੱਧ ਅਰੁ ਚਾਰਨ। ਨਭ ਥਿਤਿ 'ਜੈ ਜੈ' ਕਰਹਿਂ ਉਚਾਰਨਿ ॥੩੪॥

"The knowledgeable deities arrived hastily;

the Kiʼnnars, Yakshas, and Apsarās arrived.

All the Siḏẖas, Gaṇs, and bards came by;

they exclaim 'Hail, Hail,' settling in the sky."

ਭਯੋ ਬਿਵਾਨ ਸਹਤ ਅਸਮਾਨ। ਪਸਰੀ ਜਹਿਂ ਕਹਿਂ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਹਾਨ।

ਗੋਰਖਨਾਥ ਲੀਯੇ ਗਨ ਚੇਲਾ। ਪੀਰ ਅਜ਼ਮਤੀ ਮੇਲਿ ਸਕੇਲਾ ॥੩੫॥

"The sky became filled with Vimānas;

here and there, a divine light sprawled.

Gorakhnath arrived with his disciples;

a crowd gathered of miraculous Pīrs."

ਗੁਪਤ ਆਇ ਸਭਿ ਮੰਗਲ ਕਰਹਿਂ। ਪਰਵਾਰਤਿ ਚਹੁੰ ਦਿਸ਼ਿ ਮਹਿਂ ਥਿਰਹਿ।

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਚਰਿਤ ਕਹੈ, ਕੋ ਸੁਨੈ। ਬਿਸਮਤਿ ਹੁਇ ਕਰਿ ਉਰ ਮਹਿਂ ਗੁਨੈ ॥੩੬॥

"The residents of the hidden world sang Maʼngals;

they spread themselves out in all four directions.

Some talk of the Saṯigurū's character; others listen.

In astonishment, they count praises in their minds."

'ਇਨ ਸਮ ਧੀਰਜ ਧਰਨੀ ਮਾਂਹਿ। ਜਗ ਮਹਿਂ ਅਪਰ ਬਿਚਰੀਅਹਿ ਕਾਹਿ।

ਅਜਰ ਜਰਨਿ ਕੀ ਅਵਧਿ ਦਿਖਾਈ। ਅਛਤਿ ਸ਼ਕਤਿ ਅਤਿ, ਦੁਖ ਅਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੩੭॥

"'There exists no other as forbearing as them;

who else should we speak of in this world?

They have shown how to bear the unbearable;

even with divine power, they tolerated pain."

ਨਹਿਂ ਸੰਕਲਪ ਰਿਦੇ ਮਹਿਂ ਕੀਨਾ। ਦੋਖੀ ਕਹੁ ਕਰਿਬੇ ਸੁਖ ਹੀਨਾ।

ਇਨ ਕੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਇਨ ਹੂੰ ਬਨੈ। ਸਹੀ ਸਜਾਇ ਨ ਆਨੀਮਨੈ' ॥੩੮॥

"They did not hesitate within their mind;

and made the enemy devoid of comfort.

Their eulogies are only befitted for them;

they did not resent the torture in their mind.'"

ਅਨਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਗਗਨ ਮਹਿਂ ਕਹੈਂ। ਅਬਿ ਆਵਹਿਂ ਸਗਰੈ ਚਿਤ ਚਹੈਂ।

ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤਬਿ ਕੁਸ਼ਾ ਮੰਗਾਈ। ਕਿਸ ਦਿਜ ਕੇ ਘਰ ਤੇ ਸਮੁਦਾਈ ॥੩੯॥

"All said various praises from the sky;

all of them wished for the Gurū to arrive.

Srī Saṯigurū Ji then ordered Kusha grass;

which was collected from a Brāhmin's house."

ਆਸਤਰਨ ਅਵਿਨੀ ਪਰ ਕੀਨਾ। ਬਿਸਦ ਚਾਦਰਾ ਊਪਰ ਲੀਨਾ।

ਪੋਢਿ ਗਏ ਆਛਾਦਯੋ ਬਦਨ। ਗਮਨਿ ਕਰਨਿ ਬੈਕੁਂਠ ਨਿਜ ਸਦਨ ॥੪੦॥

"Spreading the grass all over the ground;

they laid a large sheet on top of themselves.

Covering their entire body, they lied down;

they began to leave for their home in Vaikuntha."

ਤਯਾਗ ਦੇਹਿ ਜਬਿ ਚਢੇ ਬਿਮਾਨਾ। ਹਨੇ ਡੰਕ ਸੁਰ ਬ੍ਰਿੰਦ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨਾ।

ਮੰਜੁਲ ਫੂਲਨਿ ਅੰਜੁਲ ਡਾਰਹਿਂ। 'ਜੈ ਜੈ' ਏਕੋ ਬਾਰ ਉਚਾਰਹਿਂ ॥੪੧॥

"When Gurū Ji leave their body and enter the chariot;

the gods and goddesses begin playing the kettle drums.

They start showering a rain of beautiful white flowers;

as all of them are exclaiming 'Hail, Hail' simultaneously."

ਬਾਰ ਆਰਤੀ ਪੁੰਜ ਉਤਾਰਹਿਂ। ਧੂਪ ਧੁਖਾਵ ਸੁਗੰਧਿ ਬਿਥਾਰਹਿਂ।

ਅਤਿ ਉਤਸਵ ਕੋ ਸਗਰੇ ਧਾਰਹਿਂ। ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਬੰਦਿ ਦਿਖਾਰਹਿਂ ॥੪੨॥

"They mass perform the lamp-lit worship;

lighting the incense, they spread fragrance.

All had adopted this an auspicious occasion;

they are paying obeisance with salutations."

ਭਯੋ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਅਰਣ ਹੀ ਬਰਣਾ। ਪਿਖਤਿ ਲੋਕ ਅਚਰਜ ਉਰ ਕਰਣਾ।

ਸਿਖ ਕੀ ਸੁਤਾ ਜਾਨਿ ਤਬਿ ਗਈ। ਤ੍ਰਿਣ ਸਮ ਤਨ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਸੰਗ ਭਈ ॥੪੩॥

"The entire sky had coloured itself red;

People remained astonished by this sight.

Chandu's daughter-in-law noticed as well;

she too, forsook her physical form and left."

ਘਰ ਮਹਿਂ ਪਰੀ ਨ ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਜਾਨੀ। ਭਈ ਗੁਰੂ ਸੰਗ ਭਾਗ ਮਹਾਨੀ।

ਉਰਧ ਗੁਰੂ ਕੋ ਚਲਯੋ ਬਿਬਾਨਾ। ਗਨ ਦੇਵਨਿ ਕੋ ਸੰਗ ਪਯਾਨਾ ॥੪੪॥

"Nobody noticed her body lying in the home;

she had a great fate to leave alongside Gurū Ji.

The Gurū's chariot then began to fly away;

all the deities are leaving alongside them."

ਰਾਗਨਿ ਰਾਚਿ ਅਪਸਰਾ ਨਾਚਹਿ। ਚਲਹਿਂ ਅਗਾਰੀ ਕੌਤਕ ਮਾਚਹਿ।

ਜਹਿਂ ਲਗਿ ਜਿਸ ਕੀ ਸ਼ਕਤਿ ਪਯਾਨਨਿ। ਬਹਰ ਥਿਰਹਿਂ ਪਿਖਿ ਕਰਿ ਊਚਨਨ ॥੪੫॥

"The Apsarās are dancing, reciting Rāgas;

they are miraculously walking forwards.

They walk to the extent of their ability;

then stand and watch with their faces high."

ਗੋਰਖ ਆਦਿ ਪੀਰ ਸਭਿ ਮੁਰੇ। ਬੰਦਨ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਨਿਜ ਥਲ ਥਿਰੇ।

ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਆਦਿਕ ਪੁਨ ਬੰਦਨ ਧਾਰੀ। ਹਟੇ ਸੰਗਿ, ਗੁਰ ਚਲੇ ਅਗਾਰੀ ॥੪੬॥

"Gorakhnath, the Pīrs, and others all returned;

with obeisance, they went back to their homes.

Indra and others payed obeisance as well;

they stay back, and Gurū Ji moved forwards."

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਲੋਕ ਲਗਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਸਾਥ। ਪੁਨ ਆਗੇ ਗਮਨੇ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਥ।

ਅਪਨੇ ਸਦਨ ਬਿਕੁੰਠ ਪਹੂਚੇ। ਸਰਬ ਲੋਕ ਤੇ ਅਹੈ ਜੁ ਊਚੇ ॥੪੭॥

"Brahma followed until Brahmaloka;

then, Gurū Ji continue walking forwards.

They arrive at their abode in Vaikuntha;

the abode which is the highest among all."

ਕੇਤਿਕ ਦਿਨ ਸੁਰ ਗਨ ਬਚ ਕਹੈਂ। ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਚਰਿਤ ਸੁ ਅਚਰਜ ਅਹੈਂ।

ਜਿਨ ਸਮਾਨਤਾ ਕਰਿਹੈ ਕੋਇ ਨ। ਭੂਤ ਨ ਭਯੋ ਭਵਿਖੱਯਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਨ ॥੪੮॥

"For many days, the deities said praises;

'the Saṯigurū's character is very wondrous.

There is no one who can be equal to them;

none have formerly done this, and no one will.'"

ਚੌਥੀ ਰਾਸ਼ ਦਾ ਸੈਂਤੀਵਾਂ ਅਧਿਆਇ ਸਮਾਪਤ ਹੋਇਆ ॥੩੭॥

"The thirty-seventh chapter of the fifth 'Raas' has concluded."
